How to Use the iPhone 17 Pro Camera Control Button for Notes

iPhone 17 Pro Camera Control button enables one-tap or gesture-based camera launch and control. For note-takers and content creators: the Camera Control button can be mapped to capture screenshots to Nemos, start a video note, or trigger a custom Shortcut via the Action Button.

Camera Control Button Overview

iPhone 17 Pro has the Camera Control button on the right side (same position as iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro). By default: single click opens the camera, swipe left/right adjusts settings, press and hold takes a burst photo.

Camera Control is hardware — it cannot be reassigned to other apps directly. However, the adjacent Action Button (top left side) can be configured to complement it for note-taking workflows.

Note-Taking Workflows with Camera Control

Quick document scan: Camera Control opens camera. Scan a physical document (receipt, whiteboard, business card). Use the Share Sheet to send to Nemos. Nemos OCRs the document and makes it searchable.

iOS 26 Camera Control Improvements

iOS 26 adds custom Shortcuts as a Camera Control action. This makes Camera Control more useful for note-takers: configure a double-click to open Nemos directly, or to run a "Document Scan to Nemos" Shortcut.

Action Button: best for audio capture workflows (start a voice recording, open notes app directly).
