How to Stop Your iPhone from Tracking You in 2026
By Taha Baalla··5 min read
Stopping iPhone tracking: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking > toggle off "Allow Apps to Request to Track." This prevents apps from requesting IDFA tracking. Additional steps: limit ad tracking, disable location services for specific apps, and use App Privacy Report to identify which apps actually track.
App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
Since iOS 14.5, apps must request permission before using your IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers). Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking > Allow Apps to Request to Track: turn this off to auto-deny all future tracking requests and retroactively deny pending ones.
Current apps with tracking already approved: review these individually under Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking (listed by app).
Location Tracking
Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services: see all apps with location access. Aggressive tracking uses "Always" access. For most apps, change to "While Using" or "Never." Apps like weather and maps need location; social media apps generally do not.
Advertising Identifier
Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising > Personalized Ads: turn off. This reduces targeted Apple advertising but does not affect third-party app tracking (handled by ATT above).
App Privacy Report
Settings > Privacy & Security > App Privacy Report (enable). After 7 days shows which apps accessed your location, camera, microphone, and which external domains they contacted. Identifies unexpected background data collection.
For Note App Privacy
Nemos: no analytics SDK, no ad network integration, no third-party trackers. Verify via App Privacy Report or Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking (Nemos should not appear in the tracking request list).
Note apps with cloud AI (Notion, Notion AI, Evernote) will contact external servers for AI processing regardless of ATT settings.
