Add a Voice Memo Complication to Apple Watch Face

By ··5 min read

Adding it to a watch face

  • Press and hold the watch face on your Apple Watch, then tap Edit.
  • Swipe left to the Complications screen.
  • Tap the slot you want and scroll to Voice Memos.
  • Press the Digital Crown to save, then tap the face to use it.

You can do the same from the iPhone: open the Watch app → Face Gallery or My Faces → pick the face → choose a complication slot → Voice Memos.

Which slot to use

Put it in a corner slot rather than a large one. A voice memo complication is a launcher — it opens the app so you can hit record — so it needs to be reachable, not big. Faces with four corner slots (Infograph, Modular) leave room for it without giving up the complications you actually read.

If Voice Memos is not in the list

The app has to be installed on the watch. Open the Watch app on iPhone, scroll to Available Apps, and install Voice Memos if it is listed there. Complications only appear for apps that are present on the watch itself.

What it is good for

Capture where reaching for the phone is the thing that stops you — walking, driving, cooking, mid-conversation. The recording syncs back to the iPhone, which is where you will actually do something with it.
