How to Organize Your iPhone Home Screen Like a Pro
By Taha Baalla··5 min read
Organizing iPhone home screen in iOS 26: use App Library (swipe right to find every app without manual organization), Focus-mode-specific home screens, widgets for quick capture, and the Spotlight shortcut for finding apps without organizing at all.
The Low-Effort Approach: App Library + Spotlight
The fastest organization is to stop organizing. Move all apps to App Library (swipe right to last page), use Spotlight (swipe down from home screen center) to launch any app by name in 1-2 keystrokes. Keep only 3-5 most-used apps on the home screen.
Focus-Mode Home Screens
Settings > Focus > Work > Home Screen > customize which Home Screen pages appear during Work Focus. Keep personal apps off the work Home Screen and vice versa. iOS 26 expands this: different apps visible per Focus mode without duplicating app installations.
Widgets for Note-Taking
Home screen widgets for note-taking: Apple Notes widget (shows recent notes), Nemos widget (if available — shows Smart Space highlights or recent captures), Shortcuts widget (one-tap to start a recording or create a note).
Aesthetic Organization
Folder by color, category (Social, Work, Capture), or lifestyle (Morning, Work, Commute). Use custom app icons via Shortcuts for a consistent look.
What Actually Matters for Productivity
Dock: put your most frequent apps here (4 apps). Lock screen widgets: add Nemos or quick-note shortcut. First home screen page: only apps you launch without thinking. Everything else: App Library.
Your Capture Layer Should Be Instant
Home screen organization matters most for the apps you use reflexively. If a thought surfaces during a conversation and you need to capture it, how many taps does it take?
Best practice for Nemos: dock position or first page, top-left or top-right. These positions have the shortest thumb travel from a natural phone grip. In iOS 18, lock screen widgets can also surface a one-tap Nemos capture button without even unlocking the phone.
Secondary principle: Focus Mode home screens. Create a Work Focus home screen with only work-relevant apps including Nemos. Personal Focus home screen with personal apps. Switching Focus modes switches to the relevant context without manual app reorganization.
