How to Convert a Voice Memo to Text for Free on iPhone

Free Transcription Built Into iOS
iOS 17+ Voice Memos transcribes automatically. Record → tap the transcript icon → wait for processing. Runs on-device using Apple's speech recognition. Free, private, reasonably accurate.
Limitations: available only in supported languages, only for recordings made through Voice Memos, no cross-memo search.
Nemos transcribes on capture across all voice recordings in one library. Cross-memo search means you can find content across every voice note you've ever captured without knowing which recording contains it.
For converting an old Voice Memos recording: export the audio file from Voice Memos (Share → Save to Files), then share the audio file to Nemos via Files Share Sheet. Nemos processes it and adds it to your searchable library with a transcript.

Where Nemos fits
Nemos is a private second brain for iPhone that solves the "I saved it somewhere" problem. Every screenshot, voice memo, PDF, and link you save gets OCR'd, transcribed, and indexed on-device using Apple Foundation Models. Find anything by typing one word. Free. Apple-only. Free on the App Store.
