How to Add Text to a Screenshot on iPhone (No App Needed)

By ··5 min read

Markup Text vs Capture Context

iOS Markup (tap the screenshot thumbnail → pen icon or long-press → Markup) includes a text tool: tap T, drag to position, type. This adds visible text to the screenshot image itself.

Two different reasons to add text: (1) annotation for sharing — you want someone else to see the label. (2) context for personal reference — you want to remember why you took the screenshot.

For (1): Markup is right. Use the text tool, share the annotated screenshot.

For (2): the context belongs in your capture system, not baked into the image. Screenshot → share to Nemos → add a voice note with context. This is better for personal reference because: the voice note is searchable, the context doesn't obscure the original image, and you can add more context than fits in a text overlay.

Both approaches have their place. Choose based on whether you're annotating to share or to remember.
