Best Private Note App for iPhone (No Account Needed)

By ··5 min read

The Account Requirement Problem

Most note apps require an account for sync, and sync requires a cloud. For users who want notes that don't live on any company's server, the options narrow quickly.

Fully account-free, on-device options: Apple Notes can work without iCloud sync (Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Notes → disable). Joplin with no sync configured. Nemos by default.

Nemos's privacy architecture is worth understanding: captures (voice notes, screenshots, PDFs) store on-device using Apple's local file system. Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition frameworks — no audio is sent to any server. No account is required to use the app. This isn't a "privacy mode" — it's the default behavior.

For maximum privacy: Nemos without enabling cloud sync is the simplest fully private capture tool available on iPhone.
