Private Alternative to Otter.ai (No Cloud Recording)

Why Otter Requires the Cloud
Otter's core value proposition — real-time transcription with speaker identification and AI summaries — requires server-side processing. The models are too large to run on-device at Otter's quality level. This is a feature trade-off, not a bug.
For contexts where audio privacy matters: on-device transcription is the alternative. Apple's on-device speech recognition (used by Nemos) is competitive in accuracy for individual voice memos and doesn't send audio to any server.
The trade-off: Nemos on-device transcription handles one speaker clearly. Multi-speaker diarization (who said what in a group meeting) requires Otter's cloud processing. For team meetings: Otter is the right tool if accuracy matters more than privacy. For individual voice capture, 1:1 calls where you're recording your own thoughts, or sensitive client interactions: Nemos provides equivalent accuracy without cloud dependency.
