How to Transcribe an iPhone Voice Memo for Free in 2026

iOS Built-In Transcription
Voice Memos app has had built-in transcription since iOS 17. Open any recording → tap the transcript icon. The transcription runs on-device, is private, and is reasonably accurate for clear speech. Free, no account required.
The limitation: transcriptions live inside Voice Memos with no easy way to search across all your transcriptions, export meaningfully, or link to other context.
Nemos transcribes immediately on capture — voice memos are automatically transcribed when you record or save them. Transcripts are searchable across your entire library alongside screenshots, PDFs, and other captures. Search "quarterly review" and find the voice note you recorded after a meeting, not just notes you typed.
For existing Voice Memos transcriptions: export the memo (Share → Save to Files), then share the audio to Nemos for a fresh transcription integrated into your capture library.
