How to Share an iPhone Shortcut With Someone
By Taha Baalla··5 min read
Sharing an iPhone Shortcut: open Shortcuts app > tap your shortcut > tap the share icon (top right) > Share > iMessage, Mail, or Copy Link. The recipient gets an iCloud link they tap to install the Shortcut.
Steps
- Open Shortcuts app.
- Long-press your Shortcut tile or tap the three-dot menu > Details.
- Tap the Share icon (box with arrow) at top right.
- Choose: Share Link (copies iCloud link), AirDrop (for nearby devices), Messages, Mail.
The recipient taps the link > "Get Shortcut" page opens in Shortcuts > Add Shortcut.
iCloud Public Link
Tap Share > Share Link > iCloud URL. Share this URL via any channel. Anyone with the link can install the Shortcut. The link does not expire.
Requirements
Both sender and recipient need Shortcuts app and compatible iOS version. Most Shortcuts work on iOS 16+. Shortcuts using newer features require newer iOS.
Sharing Limitations
Shortcut actions that use personal data (Photos, Contacts, Health) may ask for permission again on the recipient’s device. Shortcuts using app-specific actions (e.g., "Open in Nemos") require the recipient to have that app installed.
For Note-Taking Shortcuts
Share capture workflows: "Save to Nemos" Shortcuts, "New Apple Note from Voice" Shortcuts, or weekly review automations. Share with a team or post the iCloud link publicly for others to use.
Documenting Your Shortcut Library
Power users accumulate dozens of Shortcuts over time. The problem: context gets lost. Why does this shortcut exist? What condition triggers it? What's the logic for this particular parameter?
Nemos preserves shortcut context. When you build a new shortcut, capture a voice note explaining: purpose, trigger condition, what it does, what you'd tweak next time. Screenshot the shortcut edit view and add it to the same note.
Months later when sharing with someone or revising: search Nemos for the shortcut name. Full context available — no reverse-engineering your own logic.
For teams: share the shortcut file via iCloud link, send the Nemos capture screenshot separately as documentation. Better than the other person getting a 15-step automation with no explanation.
