How to Migrate from Pocket to Matter Reader
By Taha Baalla··5 min read
Pocket exported your data as a CSV or HTML file until 12 November 2025. To migrate to Matter: (1) Export from Pocket: Settings > Export > Download export file. (2) Import to Matter: Matter > Profile > Import > Pocket > upload the file. Matter supports Pocket export format directly and preserves article metadata.
Step-by-Step Migration
Step 1 — Retrieve your Pocket export. The export window closed on 12 November 2025, when Mozilla began deleting all accounts and saved data, so there is no longer anything to export. Check your email for any confirmation of export from before that date.
Step 2 — Open Matter on iPhone. Go to Profile (bottom right) > Import > Pocket. Select your Pocket HTML or CSV export file.
Step 3 — Wait for import to complete. Matter processes articles in batches. Depending on your library size, this may take several minutes. Articles are imported as saved items in your Matter inbox.
Step 4 — Review and organize. Matter does not automatically tag or categorize imported items. Spend 10-15 minutes going through the imported articles and moving them to relevant lists.
What Gets Imported
Article URLs and titles are always preserved. Full article text is usually preserved if it was cached by Pocket. Tags from Pocket may or may not transfer depending on your export format. Archived vs unread status is preserved.
Matter vs Pocket: Key Differences
Matter uses an AI to generate article summaries and provides an audio listening mode (text-to-speech). Pocket had minimal AI features. Matter is iOS/Android/web; Pocket was similar. Matter has a free tier with limited AI features; premium is $8/month.
Alternative: Save to Nemos Instead
If you primarily saved articles to read-later and forget them, consider whether a dedicated read-later app fits your actual workflow. Nemos captures links via the Share Sheet and makes them searchable alongside all other content you save (screenshots, voice memos, PDFs). Articles saved in Nemos don't need a separate reading inbox — they become part of your searchable knowledge library.
Frequently asked
Is there a free option that's actually good?↓
Yes — every category has a free option that covers 80% of users. We name it first. Paid apps are recommended only when free apps clearly fall short.
Does this work on older iPhones?↓
Most recommendations work on iPhone 12 and later. AI features (Apple Intelligence) require iPhone 15 Pro or later, but we always provide a non-AI alternative.
