How Apple Intelligence Accesses Screenshots

Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 can analyze your Photos library, including screenshots, through the Photos intelligence features. This is opt-in via the Photos app's visual search and is gated behind the Apple Intelligence settings.

For Personal Context: the Apple Intelligence feature that searches across photos, messages, notes, and files for context to answer queries — this accesses screenshots stored in Photos with your permission.

The privacy architecture: Apple Intelligence processes photos using on-device models for simple queries; complex queries may use Private Cloud Compute (servers designed to process without retaining data). Photos are not sent to Apple servers in the traditional sense.

Nemos takes a different approach: screenshots captured to Nemos are stored in Nemos's on-device container, separate from the Photos library. Apple Intelligence doesn't have access to Nemos captures. For users who want explicit control over which captures are AI-accessible, this distinction matters.

Where Nemos fits

Nemos is a private second brain for iPhone that solves the "I saved it somewhere" problem. Every screenshot, voice memo, PDF, and link you save gets OCR'd, transcribed, and indexed on-device using Apple Foundation Models. Find anything by typing one word. Free. Apple-only. Free on the App Store.
