How to Hide Photos on iPhone in 2026 (Properly)

Hiding photos on iPhone: Photos > select photo(s) > share icon > Hide. Hidden photos move to the Hidden album (Utilities section). The Hidden album is locked with Face ID by default in iOS 16+.

The Hidden Album

Hidden photos still exist on your device and in iCloud. They appear in the Hidden album but not in your main library, Years, Months, or Days views. Search for hidden photos by name or content does not surface them in the main Photos interface.

Enable Face ID lock for Hidden album: Settings > Photos > Use Face ID > toggle on. This requires biometric authentication to view the Hidden album.

More Secure: Locked Notes with Attachments

For photos requiring stronger privacy: save the photo to a locked Apple Note (Notes > new note > add photo > lock the note). Locked notes require Face ID or a separate password. The photo is encrypted at rest.

For Screenshots with Sensitive Content
